Belthangady, Jan 24: In a shocking incident, five members of a family committed suicide by hanging in their house at Sulkeri in Venur police station limits in Belthangady taluk on Monday night.
Deceased have been identified as Girija (35) and her four children-- Sunita (14), Savita (13), Sandeep (8) and Santosh (7).
According to reports reaching here, when Girija’s husband, Narayana Harijana, a daily wage labourer, arrived at his home on Monday night, he found the door locked. However, when he peeped inside through the rear door, he found his wife and children hanging. The hands and legs of the children were tied.
The reason for the extreme step is not known, the police sources said.
