Manipal gang-rape: Judicial custody of all accused extended till July 29

Udupi, Jul 15: Yogish, Harisprasad and Anand, the three accused in the Manipal rape case were on Monday July 15 were produced in the chief judicial magistrate court.
Their judicial custody was extended to July 29. They will be lodged in Shimoga jail. They had earlier been sent to the same jail till July 15 under judicial custody.
The judicial custody of Harindra and Balachandra, brothers of Hariprasad and Yogish who were arrested for destroying evidence, was also extended till July 29. They will be lodged in Hiriadka jail. However, they were not produced in court with the other three accused.
Senior division additional chief judicial magistrate Chandrashekar heard the case.
The investigation officer appealed for a detailed probe into the matter, and hence the judicial custody was extended.
A student of Manipal University was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by three men in an auto rickshaw on the night of June 20. Yogish, Hariprasad and Anand were arrested a week later. Among them, Yogish and Anand attempted suicide just before their arrest and were admitted in hospital. Later, all three were sent to Shimoga jail under judicial custody.
