Beltangady, Jul 13: Venkappa Gowda (55) from Meenandel House in Belal village, was found lying lifeless on a pathway leading to his home on July 6 evening. Initially it was thought to be a case of accidental slip. However, the police have now found out that Venkappa was murdered.
Gowda had visited Belal town that day, and was found to have died while returning home. As his body bore some wounds, his second wife, Dharnamma, with whom he was living, told Beltangady police that she suspects this to be murder.
The police, during their investigation, reportedly found that Chidananda Poojary (23) from Arbi in Belal village, and Dinesh Gowda (23) from Jalakkar, were involved with the murder. Both were arrested on Friday July 12.
It is gathered that both Chidananda and Dinesh approached Venkappa when the latter was returning home that day, and fought with him about the wages due to them for work rendered by them as coolies. Both of them then assaulted Venkappa, due to which he suffered injuries and collapsed on the spot. Both the accused fled from the scene thereafter.
Dharnamma, who went in search of her husband as he did not return till late in the night, found his body on the way to her home.
