Mangalore, Jul 12: “The district administration should provide proper housing facility and compensation for the victims of Bajpe-Thottilugundi incident which took place on June 18,” said Professor Krishnappa, Karnataka Dalit Sangarsha Samithi state organizing secretary, addressing the press meet held in the city on Friday June 11.
He also said that the compensation provided to the families of the deceased is very less and the administration should provide at least Rs 5 lac to them. “Even those who suffered injuries in this incident have not received any compensation; even they should recieve compensation at the earliest,” added Prof Krishnappa.
“Bajpe gram panchayat has decided to provide housing facilities within its limits; hence the families should get all basic facilities also. The government should provide employment opportunities to the people of Thottilugundi. This incident took place because of construction of an illegal commercial building. Proper investigation should be conducted in this matter. The government has to bear the responsibility of Ravishankar who became an orphan. During the time of disaster, the people in the vicinity played a vital role in rescuing residents from the home. Ashwitha, who was a big help in this instance should get the ‘Karnataka Bravery Award’,” he added.
On this occasion, district organizing convener R C Amin, Krishnananda D, M V Padmanabha, district convener Raghu K Yekkar, district executive committee member Padmakshi, Mangalore divisional convener Sheikar Hejmadi, and victims Ganesh Thottilugundi, Lalitha, and Leela were present.
