Mangalore, Jul 11: The manager of a bakery at Milagres here and a staff were assaulted by a group of Bajrang Dal activists and another person on Thursday July 11 after a woman employee accused them of harassing her.
It is said that the lady had joined the bakery as an employee about seven months back. She has lodged a complaint of harassment in the Pandeshwar women police staion stating that the manager and staff of the bakery had harassed her and used vulgar language against her.
She stated that unable to bear the harassment, she complained to her brother who in turn informed the Bajrang Dal. A group of over 10 persons came to the bakery on Thursday and demanded an explanation, but the manager denied allegations of harassment. This led to heated arguments, and the group then reportedly assaulted him and a staff member.
Speaking to daijiworld over the phone, the proprietor of the bakery denied harassment charges and said, “It is a false allegation levelled by the woman. She never brought any such issue to my notice. Previously, the manager had warned her for selling biscuits for a higher price and she frequently threatened the other employees saying that her brothers were part of Bajrang Dal."
She is the only woman among six employees at the bakery.
The Bunder police, based on a complaint by the manager, took 10 persons into custody, including the woman's brother.
