Udupi: Surveyor convicted in graft case, gets two years' jail

Udupi, Jul 9: Relating to a case of accepting bribe, the district and sessions court here has found R Tippesh Naik, second grade surveyor working in the office of the tahsildar, Kundapur taluk, guilty of the charges levelled against him. Naik has been sentenced to two years of imprisonment, as per a judgment delivered on Saturday July 6.

A person named Devadas Bhandarkar from Shankarnarayana village had approached the surveyor named above to get SRT survey of land owned by his younger brother, Panduranga Bhandarkar, done in May 2009. After Naik demanded a bribe of Rs 1,000 for getting the needful done, Bhandarkar had filed a complaint with Lokayukta police of the district.

The Lokayukta police had nabbed Naik while accepting bribe, and filed a case against him. Charge sheet was filed in the court on November 4, 2010. Special Lokayukta public prosecutor, Bhaskar Hegde, represented the prosecution in the case.

District and sessions judge, B M Angadi, finding the accused guilty, sentenced him to two years imprisonment apart from levying a fine of Rs 4000. In case of failure to pay the fine, Naik will have to serve four additional months of jail term as per the judgment.

    Really it is late to send him behind bar, such dirty people should keep minimum for 10 years also suspend from his job, believe me he is not only one in udupi there is much more eaters are there, I request all public join together and who is not doing his official duty honestly should report lokayuktha and teach him lesson, I am also waiting chance to catch such a dirty persons.

    Corruption is one of the social menace and crime. Aggrieved party shall approach the concerned anti-corruption wing and take necessary legal action, which will deter frequency of this social menace.

    This judgment of conviction sends shivering fear on corrupt officials.

    Let us create better India for our future generation, which is free from corruption.

    Anyhow kudos to the prosecution & police team and complainant Mr. Bhandarkar.
