Beltangady, Jul 8: A person from Belal village in the taluk died under suspicious circumstances on the night of July 6. The body of Venkappa Gowda (55), son of Odiyappa Gowda from Meenandel House in Belal village in the taluk was found lying on a pathway leading to his home. The path has lot of moss and hence is slippery.
Akku, wife of Venkappa Gowda, went searching for him as he had not returned after leaving home to visit Belal market area on Saturday evening, and found his body lying face down. The fact that his face bore injuries from which bleeding had occurred, in spite of the fact that there are no rocks around, has given rise to suspicion of murder. Based on a complaint, the local policemen have registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances.
Although Venkappa had married twice, the locals say both his wives have cordial relationship. As he held only a small piece of land, murder for gain is ruled out. The policemen are now trying to find out whether Venkappa Gowda had raised any loans, and whether the financiers were behind his death. As Venkappa was a liquor addict, the possibility of drunken brawl culminating in his murder, or enmity arising out of petty quarrel at his workplace, are yet to be investigated.
Assistant superintendent of police, Kuldeep Jain, visited the spot and guided the investigations. Local police sub-inspector, Yogeesh Kumar said that a clearer picture might emerge once post mortem report is received.
