Bhatkal, Jul 7: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Saturday July 6 seized hundreds of bottles of Indian made liquor from Netravati Express near Kumta.
However, the person who was transporting the liquor managed to escape.
The police seized 938 bottles of liquor, each 180 ml, altogether valued at Rs 37,000.
The liquor was loaded at Margoa railway station in Goa, where it was manufactured.
It is said that the railway police noticed the bags containing liquor near the door of one of the train compartments. However, no one was guarding the bottles.
Railway sub-inspector Santosh Gaonkar, Praveen K, Maruthi Madar, Ajesh V K and other railway officials were part of the operation.
The liquor bottles were later handed over to the Bhatkal excise department.
