Bangalore, Jul 6: It is said that Karnataka in-charge of BJP affairs, Thawar Chand Gehlot, has sent a report to the high command, recommending re-admission of former chief minister, Yeddyurappa, into the party fold. This report is expected to work as catalyst for the efforts being put in by various people including party leaders to bring Yeddy back.
Gehlot, who visited Karnataka twice in the recent past, has mentioned in detail about the developments in the state BJP and the efforts being made by certain legislators and MPs to bring Yeddyurappa back into the party. Sources said that the report also contains opinions of the leaders both for and against the former chief minister’s return to BJP. Taking into account all these opinions, Gehlot has concluded that Yeddy’s return will benefit BJP in the Lok Sabha election, as otherwise the party’s votes will get split. He pointed out that in the recent assembly election, BJP would have fared far better, if KJP was not in fray.
It is learnt that the only discordant note on the issue has emanated from veteran BJP leader, L K Advani. It is said that chairman of BJP’s election campaign committee, Narendra Modi, who has been spearheading a campaign to bring Yeddy back, has taken upon himself the responsibility of convincing Advani to relent.
Sources at New Delhi said that Advani has stood firm on his stand that Yeddyurappa need not return to the party even if his return helps the party because of various allegations faced by him. “We have already lost in Karnataka. We are prepared to lose again. But I am against entering into understanding with Yeddyurappa for the Lok Sabha election,” he firmly told the leaders who tried to convince him to change his stand, it is learnt.
