Mangalore, Jul 6: Through an order, the city police commissioner, Manish Kharbikar, has suspended a constable attached to Panambur police station named Praveen Pereira. The order was issued on the basis of an internal inquiry conducted by the department based on a complaint made by Muhammed Imaran (22) from Casba Bengre.

Reportedly, Muhammed Imran had visited Panambur police station on Thursday July 4 in connection with the customary address verification process relating to his passport application. Pereira, recollecting an incident of group clashes which had occurred at Bengre six years ago, reportedly assaulted Imran, besides forcing him to sign a blank sheet of paper.

Aggrieved by this development, Imran contacted Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) organization.  A DYFI delegation met the police commissioner the same evening, and brought to the notice of the commissioner about the unjust act of the constable. The city commissioner, who took the incident seriously, conducted an internal inquiry into the issue, and suspended Praveen Pereira from duty by late night the same day, sending a strong and clear signal to his subordinates that violation of law by the policemen will not be tolerated.

    The suspended police should be dismissed from the services.

    Right thing done by the City Police Commissioner. It is a pity that the police think that they are above the law. When it comes to breaking the law, no one dare to come in their way. In case someone dares to challenge them, they know how to deal with such people. As Ronald has said, find and see how many more people he has cheated in the past.

    I think our police personnel are trained to deal only with criminals and terrorists and not with general public. They have to change their mindset as they are there to protect citizens.

    Imran did a good job by informing the matter to DYFI, who promptly took the issue with the Police Commissioner. I don’t think the police would have taken his complaint if he had submitted it directly without the help of any organization. It was a quick action from Mohd. Imran, DYFI and the Police Commissioner alike to undo the highhandedness of the Constable Pereira. Just suspension of the constable is not sufficient, he should also be made to apologize to Mohd. Imran.

    I would like to quote here what Albert Einsteen had said: “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything”.

    This is abuse of power as such stringent action should be slapped on the constable. It is strange a constable has no right to act on his own without the notice of ASI/SI. This is purely black mailing and such police should be dismissed from the department. What a shame to police department.

    Why can't Praveen Pereira booked for fraud and cheating by taking signature on Blank paper?
    File a FIR and send him for judicial custody.
    Why no law takes action against dirty police man.

    Please check his history : how-many blank signatures he must have taken and Black Mailed innocent people.

    Very Good action by police commissioner..
    Constable trying to create a problem to him by taking the signature on the blank paper!!!,Actually this is the big crime, Not only suspension is enough, also should take him to Jail so that the other police department learn this lesson.
