Kolar, Jul 3: The parents of a college student named Chandrashekhar (22), unable to bear the agony borne out of his incessant harassment for money, beat him black and blue before electrocuting him on the night of Sunday June 30. The incident occurred at B Voddarahalli village near Chintamani in the district.
Chandrashekhar, son of Ashwath Reddy from the village, got murdered by his own parents in this fashion. After efforts to project the student’s death as suicide failed, the police took into custody his parents, Ashwath Reddy and Nagaratnamma, as well as Nagesh, elder brother.
Chandrashekhar, who had been studying in a private college at Bangalore since the last seven years, had been in the habit of making wasteful and extravagant expenditure, in the company of his friends. He also showed interest in the purchase of movie boxes but went deeper in debts in these deals. The parents had lost whatever money they had because of the persistent demands for money put forth by their son.
It is learnt that Chandrashekhar arrived at his home fully drunk last week, and began pestering his parents to part with Rs 68 lac for producing a film. He raised ruckus in the house. Fed up by his constant tantrums, his parents assaulted him with sticks and electric shocks. Chandrashekhar lost his life as a result.
Parents of the student and several village leaders conspired all through the night to project the incident as a case of suicide. However, their efforts failed, as police got scent of the murder incident.
District superintendent of police, Shivaprasad, deputy superintendent of police, Shekhar, and circle inspector, Krishnappa, questioned the family members, before arresting theparents and elder brother of the murdered youngster. A case was registered in Chintamani rural police station, and the body was shifted to the mortuary.
