Bantwal, Jul 2: A tipper and pickup truck collided head on near Mani Petrol Pump on national highway 75 in the taluk on Monday July 1. In the incident, the tipper driver suffered grave injuries, while a passenger and driver of the pickup truck escaped with minor injuries.
The injured tipper driver has been identified as Uday (28) from Puttur, and the name of the injured passenger has been given as Satish (28). Both were admitted into a private hospital in Puttur. The nature of injuries sustained by Ranga (52), a resident of Siddarthnagar in Bajpe, who was driving the pickup truck, are minor.
The tipper was returning towards Puttur after presenting the same for annual inspection at Mangalore. It is learnt that the tipper driver was trying to overtake a motor bike, when it collided with a pickup truck that was coming towards B C Road from opposite direction. It is believed that recklessness and over-speeding on the part of the tipper driver had caused the accident. Front wheels of both the vehicles got separated from their axles and fell some distance away.
The diesel tank of the tipper also came off due to the impact of the collision, but providentially no fire was ignited. Engines of both the vehicles were badly mangled.
