Mangalore, Jul 2: Instead of the city corporation, the police took upon themselves the task of evicting street vendors encroaching the roads near Central Market area in the city on Sunday June 30.
Policemen of Bunder station swung to action, and evicted unauthorized street vendors, who spread their wares on the roads for conducting business.
It is a common sight for the people visiting this area to see vegetable and fruit vendors conducting business either spreading the goods on the roads or stacking them in carts on the roads. This practice has been making it difficult for pedestrians and vehicle drivers to plough through the plethora of shops which spring up in the morning at these roads.
The city corporation had issued clear instructions in the past to conduct all these businesses within the Central market complex. The police, acting on complaints from the general public, cleared these roads of these encroachments. Several streets like the road near Central Talkies and town hall too have scores of such shops.
