Kalakul Konkani repertory holds Graduation Day

Mangalore, Jul 1: Graduation day of Kalaakul – Konkani’s only theater repertory was held at Kalaangann, here, on Saturday June 29.

Chief guest Aloysius D’Souza, the head master and versatile theater person, and guest of honour Edith D’Souza, the artist, were honoured by Stany Alvares, president of Mandd Sobhann. 

Christopher D’Souza Neenasam, chief trainer of Kalaakul presented the annual report. Edith Dsouza presented the paper ‘Changes in the Konkani Theater after establishing Kalaakul theater repertory and comparison with Kannada Theatre’.
 
Certificates were given to nine artists who successfully completed their theater training in 2012-13 batch. They are Maria Joyce D’Souza, Michal Crasta, Sandeep Mascarenhas, Melwyn Pais, Melcon Rego, Hanley Coelho, Anil Dsouza, Darrel D’Souza and Sunil Anthony Siddi. Melwyn Pais was awarded with the best Kalakul Artist of the year.

Chief guest Aloysius D’Souza congratulated the Kalakul artists for their efforts in Konkani theatre and welcomed the new batch of 2013-14.  Edith D’Souza, unveiled the new uniform set of Kalaakul. Ten artists are selected for the new batch. They are Maria Joyce D’Souza, Venissa D’Cunha, Nishma D’Souza, Melwyn Pais, Melcon Rego, Hanley Coelho, Sandeep Tellis, Preetham Rodrigues and Arun Tauro.

Arun Raj Rodrigues, play writer and administrator of Kalaakul gave the welcome address and compered the program. He expressed his gratitude to all who worked and supported for the success of Kalakul repertory.

This year, Kalakul Repertory has produced four major plays, one street play and two small plays, and has presented total 61 shows.
