Mangalore, Jun 29: The election for the office of president, secretary, and joint secretary of St Aloysius Degree Students’ Council for the year 2013-14 was held on Saturday June 29.
Ponnana N T, a student of third year BBM, was elected president with 1,333 votes while Mohammed Junaid of second year BBM was elected secretary with 1,842 votes, and Rashmi Mayola Peris of third year BCom was chosen joint secretary with 561 votes.
Professor Ratan T Mohunta, election commissioner, welcomed Aloysians and initiated the proceedings. The public address was made by Neil Harold Peris, Ponnana N T, and Radhika Castelino for the post of president, by Elton J D’ Souza, Gladwin Fernandes, and Mohammed Junaid for the post of secretary and by Chitra Pinto, Lavitha Lobo, and Rashmi Mayola Peris for the post of joint secretary, respectively. Radhika Castelino was the first woman candidate for the post of president. Most of them talked about the changes that they would like to bring in if they won the election.
Polling for all the posts began at 10 am, followed by counting of the votes at 11 am. The results were announced at 1.45 pm.
The election commission headed by Prof Mohunta consisted of manager of counting officer Prof M L Sureshnath, mustering and de-mustering officers, Ashok Prasad and Ravichandra Swamy, chief counter officers for the post of president Dr Richard Gonsalves, for the post of secretary Navin Mascarenhas, and for the post of joint secretary Prof Precilla D’ Silva and other staff members.
