Mangalore, Jun 29: The student cabinet for the new academic year 2013-14 of St Agnes College (Autonomous) was inaugurated on Saturday June 29 along with a meaningful oath-taking ceremony at the college auditorium.
The programme began by lighting a traditional lamp by the dignitaries. Deeksha and group invoked the blessings of God with a prayer song.
Principal Sr Prem D'Souza administered the oath and distributed cabinet badges to the new leaders.
Dr Devanand Gaonkar, joint director for Collegiate Education for Mangalore region was the chief guest. In his inspirational speech he urged the students to become great leaders and torch bearers of knowledge to society.
By quoting a number of anecdotes from epics like Mahabharatha and Zen Buddhism he emphasised the need for discipline and dedication for the accomplishment of desired goals in life and to make life meaningful.
Sr Lydia Fernandes, the joint secretary St Agnes college, Sr Supriya the vice-principal, deans of various faculties, parents, staff and students were present at the programmeme.
Shanthi Nazareth and Ameetha introduced the cabinet, after which the cabinet members presented their action plan before the august audience.
The following students have been elected that form the cabinet, college president - Anisha Maria Fernandes, vice president for faculty of Arts - Nikhitha Veena Noronha, for commerce - Karina D'souza, for science - Deepika, for Business management - Tulsi Rajkumar.
Dr Nancy welcomed the gathering, Saramma expressed her gratitude to the audience and Charles Pais compered the programmeme.
