Mangalore, Jun 29: A team of 42 students from East Timor along with their officials arrived to St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangalore for 10 months of English Language Course. This is a third batch of students sent by the Ministry of East Timor.
The team arrived on June 19 along with their officials Ana Lucinda Ribeiro, senior officer HRD, Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Timor Leste, Rosa Hanjan, director for administration and finance, Timor Leste and Carlos Soares, advisor for Scholarships, Timor Leste.. The course will complete in the month of April 2014. The officials were present at the campus for six days and left to East Timor on June 25.
The inauguration ceremony of the English language course for the Students of Timor Leste was held on June 19, at Bethania Hall. Ana Lucinda Ribeiro, Senior Officer HRD, Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Timor Leste, was the chief guest, Rosa Hanjan, director for administration and finance, Timor Leste and Carlos Soares, advisor for Scholarships, Timor Leste were the guests of honour. Fr Ajith Menezes, assistant director presided.
The ceremony began with a hymn by the college choir. Dr Rio D’Souza, vice principal, welcomed the guest and gathering. The programme was inaugurated by lighting the Lamp by the chief guest and other dignitaries on the dais as a symbol of knowledge.
Speaking on this occasion, Carlos Soares, advisor for scholarships, appreciated the disciplined atmosphere of SJEC. He said that, the Ministry of East Timor was greatly impressed by the overall development noticed in the personality of the students from East Timor. He assured the Management of a long term collaboration between East Timor and SJEC.
Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal of the College in his address encouraged the students to become the leaders of their country.
Fr Ajith Menezes, assistant director and president of the ceremony, in his presidential address said that, this sharing of knowledge, culture and tradition is definitely going to enrich SJEC and East Timor.
The officials from East Timor presented a memento, as a token of love and gratitude to the College.
The Heads of the Department, Faculty members and invitees were present for the programme. The vote of thanks was proposed by Sheryl D’Souza, lecturer, English department. Sunitha D’Souza, lecturer, English Department was the master of ceremony.
