Mangalore, Jun 29: A suitcase, in which a revolver was kept, was stolen from Mangalore-Thiruvananthapuram Parashuram Express train, which was scheduled to leave central railway station here at 4.15 am on Friday June 28. M C Joy from Chikmagalur filed a complaint in this connection.
Joy, a native of Kerala, had shifted base to Chikmagalur about five decades ago. He runs a concern named Indian Ice Cream Industry at Chikmagalur, besides functioning as an excise contractor. For security needs, he possessed the licence to hold revolver from both Karnataka and Kerala governments since 1980.
For visiting Kozhikode in Kerala, he had left Chikmagalur by bus on Thursday night, and reached the city by 4 am the next day. He then reached the central railway station and boarded Parashuram Express. As it was dark inside the train at that time, he kept the suitcase on a seat and approached the switchboard to put on the light. By the time he came back, the suitcase had gone missing, he said. Joy also said that the suitcase, apart from a 0.22 mm revolver, also contained 30 live bullets, ATM card, and bank passbook, among others.
A case was registered by the railway police. They have begun an investigation.
