Kundapur, Jun 27: Catholic Women of Kundapur region in the diocese of Udupi under the banner of ‘Catholic Women Organization’ held a day-long gathering at Sasthan Church on June 26.
Catholic women’s Association Kundapur Varado formally known as 'Stree Sangatan' celebrated the annual day programme here on Wednesday at Maitri hall, Sastan.
The bishop of Udupi who inaugurated the gathering and celebrated the Eucharist, emphasized on organization, education and self-reliance of women. He called upon women to be the agents of their own progress.
He also urged them to grow beyond the parish and Church structures and become leaders in the society. He said that a Commission for Women has been formed at the diocesan level to take care of women’s issues.
Prior to the stage programme a solemn mass was celebrated at St Anthony’s church, Sastan.
The annual report was placed by Kundapur Varado secretary Janet Vaz, followed by annual accounts by Vinaya Dcosta.
Leena Roche, president of Women’s association central committee, Udupi, said associations should be active and alive through the continuous activities.
She congratulated the president and all members for the wonderful programme.
Fr Anil Dsouza, vicar general Kundapur Varado, said, "association’s should work as unity and cooperation, through which success can be achieved.” He assured his support for the women’s association.

Byndoor, Trasi, Padukone, Gangolli, Basrur, Kundapur, Puisnagar, Kota and Sastan units president and members were also present at the programme
Welcome was rendered by Cynthia Dsouza president of women’s association Kundapur Varado; Veera Pinto delivered the vote of thanks. Mabel Dsouza and Leena Tauro compered the inaugural ceremony.
