Udupi, Jun 26: “About 40,000 fruits including jackfruits are being wasted annually due to lack of proper storage facilities. Good income can be obtained by providing good price and proper preservation techniques,” said MLA Pramod Madhwaraj.
He spoke after inaugurating state-level jackfruit fest at Narayana Guru Convention hall in Brahmavar on Tuesday June 25.
“If jackfruit products are promoted worldwide in the name of Udupi produce, it may get good response. If women take this up as self-employment, they can become economically stable,” said Gowri V Poojary president of taluk panchayat.
Bangalore Agriculture University Extension director Dr N Nagaraj delivered keynote address.
K M Udupa of Bharathiya Vikas Trust Managing Trusty, Malik B Poojary, ZP member, B N Shankar Poojary, former president of Tobacco Committee, Mahaveera Ajri ,regional director of Udupi, Dr M Hanumanthappa, Brahmavar Regional Agricultural Research Center, assistant research director, were present on the occasion.
Dr Jayalakshmi N Hegde welcomed while Balakrishna compered.
Bangalore Agriculture University, Regional Agricultural Center Brahmavar, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, Rural Development Project Udupi, Agricultural University Bangalore, District Agricultural Society Udupi, horticultural and irrigation department Udupi will be organizing jackfruit fest on June 26 and 27.
