Bijapur: Six killed, five seriously injured in road accident

Bijapur, Jun 24: Six persons including a child were killed on the spot, and five others sustained critical injuries, after a speeding Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle hit a truck that was parked by the roadside early morning on Sunday June 23. The accident occurred at Mahal Ainapur in the outskirts of the town on highway.
The deceased have been identified as Siddarama Banapatti (60), Rathankumar Siddarama Banapatti (25), Puthalibai Raju Salunke (60), Shantabai Ningappa Dhotare (65), Parvatishankar Banapatti (45), and four-year-old Shantakumar. All of them were from Gulbarga.
Anand Neelakanth Jamadar, driver of the vehicle in which the ill-fated passengers were travelling, and other passengers, Sharanu Siddarama Banapatti, Renuka Siddarama Banapatti, Mahadevi Sharanu Banapatti, and Nagaraju Salunke, suffered grave injuries. All of them were rushed to the district hospital in the city, where they are recuperating.
It is gathered that Siddarama Banapatti, a resident of Basava Nagara in Gulbarga, had hired a vehicle to attend the engagement function of his nephew, along with his family members. After attending the engagement ceremony, the family was moving towards Saudatti to pay obeisance to Goddess Yallammadevi at the famous temple there. Their vehicle hit the parked truck at great speed, giving rise to the above macabre accident.
