Kasargod, Jun 22: The police have arrested two persons from the town for allegedly attempting to encash a lottery ticket by altering its number and claiming it to be a prize-winning ticket, from an agent in Kumble.
They have been identified as Babu (38), a native of Palakkad, and Ajith (27) from Ernakulam, who live in a rented room in Vidyanagar in the town. The other accused, Prakash, is missing. The police are searching for him.
These three reportedly approached a lottery agent near Kumble bus stand in the district, presented to him a ticket of Kerala state government’s ‘Dhanyashree’ lottery scheme, and told him that this ticket had won Rs 5,000 in the recent draw. The agent checked the ticket, and found that the serial number of the ticket had been tampered with, by pasting some other number on it.
Upon questioning them, all the three tried to flee. The agent, with the help of some locals, succeeded in detaining two of them and handing them over to the police.
