Mangalore, Jun 22: Feast of St Aloysius Gonzaga, the patron saint of the institution, was celebrated with much devotion and in a prayerful atmosphere at Loyola Hall of St Aloysius College on Friday June 21.
The main celebrant of the Eucharistic celebration was Gerald Isaac, Bishop of Udupi Diocese. The central theme of the mass was ‘my virtue, my life’.
During the homily Fr Joseph Martis, the rector of St Joseph Seminary, Jeppu, focused on ‘magis’ which means not being satisfied with the minimum and guidance for the youth. He quoted St Aloysius and said, “l was born for greater things”. He also mentioned three people in his homily—Kevin, who had a negative image in the society, the rich man in the Gospel who wanted to follow Jesus but was hesitant to give up his riches, and Aloysius who was from a noble family, yet chose to serve the poor.
Fr Denzil Lobo, new rector of St Aloysius College, Mangalore, gave the message to the students. Fr Elvis C Lewis, principal of the PU College, delivered the vote of thanks.
The choir and the arrangement for the mass were conducted by the PUC students. Their melodious song helped everyone to participate in the mass with greater devotion.
More than 2,000 students of PUC and degree participated in the mass.
