Kasargod, Jun 20: The forest officials, who intercepted a Maruti car, found that deer antlers were being smuggled in the vehicle. They seized the antlers and arrested P R Sunil (28). The arrest was made on the night of Tuesday June 18.
The forest officials, during their routine inspection of the vehicles at Chittarikal in the district, found the antlers kept in the said car. They gathered information that these antlers were meant to be transported to Maloth from Cherupuzha. Sunil, during interrogation, confessed that a person named Vinod from Cherupuzha had offered him a sum of Rs 20,000 for transporting the antlers to Maloth.
The policemen suspect that the antlers were meant to be smuggled abroad. Forest department officials, Shaji Kumar, M P Raju, K Babu, and others were in the team which succeeded in arresting the accused and recovering the antlers.
