Accused Prakash and Sudheesh
The arrested persons have been identified as Prakash (35), a friend of Jayan, and a labourer named K Sudheesh (24).
It is said that Jayan was also into real estate business. On June 16 night, the two accused, after getting heavily drunk, reached Jayan’s home and demanded Rs 5,000 he had borrowed earlier from Prakash. Jayan’s refusal to give in to this demand gave rise to verbal altercation. Prakash, who lost patience, hit Jayan’s head with a lethal weapon, it is said. Jayan fainted on the spot.
Both of them then lifted Jayan from there, and tossed his body into a nearby drain. The policemen said that the accused have confessed to killing Jayan by forcibly holding his head under water for several minutes after throwing him into the drain.
Although on the face of it, Jayan had appeared to have committed suicide, there were suspicions about his death and several unanswered questions. Therefore, a police team led by deputy superintendent of police, Mathew Excel, conducted detailed investigation. The team found out that Jayan was murdered. The police have also recovered the weapon used for attacking Jayan.
