BJP asks JD(U) to 'divorce peacefully'; Congress woos Nitish Kumar

PATNA/NEW DELHI, Jun 15: The BJP and JD(U) appeared set for imminent parting of ways in Bihar on Sunday when chief minister Nitish Kumar meets his top party leaders to take a final call in the wake of Narendra Modi's elevation.

Further hints of the break-up in the 17-year-old alliance were given today by senior JD(U) leader Shivanand Tiwari who said the announcement of a split was a "mere formality".

As JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav arrived in Patna, the chief minister held parleys with other leaders, including MPs and MLAs. Yadav and Nitish have already been authorised by the party National Council to take a decision on the alliance with BJP in case Modi is projected by the party.

The deterioration in ties was evident when deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Bihar NDA convenor Nand Kishore Yadav, both BJP leaders, on Saturday spurned an invitation from Nitish for a round of discussions on the current political situation.

The BJP also appeared ready for the inevitable when senior leader Ravishankar Prasad told reporters that while it was maintaining restraint and wanted the alliance to continue in the interest of Bihar, it was "awaiting" the decision of JD(U).

BJP vice-president CP Thakur said BJP ministers would hand over their resignations tomorrow after JD(U) makes an announcement of split in NDA. Thakur also requested JD(U) leaders to enact "divorce" peacefully. "We have lived together for 17 long years so it will be better if divorce takes place peacefully," Thakur said making a request to JD(U) leaders to stop issuing "hard-hitting" statements against BJP leaders.

'Modi arrogant and divisive'

Shivanand Tiwari, who is widely perceived to reflect Nitish's views, also dubbed Modi as an "arrogant" and "divisive personality" who cannot take all sections along.

He said after what Nitish Kumar had said on Saturday, there was nothing left in the alliance to be saved. "It's (announcement of a split) only a formality," he said in clear indications of things to come.

"We have been looking for a categorical assurance that Narendra Modi will not be the prime ministerial candidate in whatsoever situation, but that has not been forthcoming from them (BJP) during talks to save the NDA," the senior JD(U) leader told .

"Let it be clear once and for all that the BJP has forced the JD(U) to walk out of the alliance by being not forthcoming on Modi's future role," he said.

"The situation will be clear by tomorrow," JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav told reporters in Patna tonight before meeting Nitish at his residence.

"I have come here for holding discussion with chief minister Nitish Kumar and other JD(U) legislators and leaders over development that have taken place in past few days to take a decision whether to continue in NDA or not," the JD(U) president, who was accompanied by general secretary KC Tyagi, said.

Immediately after arrival, Yadav went to 1 Anne Marg, official residence of the CM, and held deliberations with him.

The Bihar BJP's core committee members met for over two hours here to review fast developing political situation in Bihar following which the state unit chief Mangal Pandey defended the state party leaders' decision not to meet Nitish.

"There was no need for Modi and Yadav to visit the chief minister's official residence to meet him to discuss any matter under vitiated atmosphere between the two allies," Pandey reporters.

BJP leader Nankishore Yadav said "we are state leaders and have no authority to talk about prime ministership which only our national leaders can talk."

He said that he had told the CM that "our national leaders including party president Rajnath Singh, LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Nitin Gadkari and others have been talking to you and Sharad Yadav on larger political issues including PM nominee ... the subject does not fall in our jurisdiction hence there is no point meeting."

Education minister PK Shahi regretted that the two senior BJP leaders did not come to meet the chief minister at the latter's official residence where Nitish and other senior JD(U) leaders were waiting for them.

Seniority wise it's Mr. Advani's turn to be the PM candidate, who is also the cofounder of BJP along with Mr. Vajpayee. Therefore, in the interest of both BJP & NDA, Mr. Modi should wait at least for five more years.

Thadipaar Amit Shah is the head of election committee in UP...........hahaha This is a definite suicide attempt by the BJP. They seem to forget that UP has been in the forefront fighting whenever democracy and secularism has been threatened in India and therefore I am sure they will promptly give BJP a sound kick in 2014.

MODI elevation as campaign committee chief would not advantage NDA prospects much

On the Other other hand it may lead to NDA division the moment BJP project him as PM candidate

The anti MODI lobby within BJP may work adversely to polarize the secular units of NDA which will ultimately decide the NDA PM candidate

So MODI will have more resistance with in BJP than NDA to climb the PM ladder

We do not hate or jealous BJP. We needed a good governess. OR At least a strong & healthy opposition. Leave alone coming to power, you are not even fit for even opposition as you see the present scenario. Slap me if I am wrong. We know UPA is full of scams and even corrupted. But we see no other option. "Gidak ki jab mouth athi hai,wo sher ki tharaf bhagtha hai."
Democracy should move on, but not under the banner of 'Hindutwa'.

People of India are more interested in growth, development, prosperity and availability of their daily need goods and services at comfort without any hassle or any bribe. They are least bothered whether a leader is secular as defined by political entities. Voters also understand the real character of all so called secular leaders who have been making so many promises for welfare of Muslims but who have done almost nothing for them as long as they remained in power. On the other, Gujarat Chief Minister Mr.Modi says little but do more. This is the difference. Nitish is nowhere near Modi so far as national level popularity is concerned. And hence BJP should not bow down before Nitish for his childish rigidity on a non-issue, on a matter for which he should not bother and which is totally a prerogative of BJP . It is however very much perturbing and dangerous to observe that most of regional parties as well as national parties are blindly going behind Muslim votes completely ignoring national priorities and Indians as a whole. With a purpose of getting bulk votes from Muslim community most of political parties have discarded their own manifestos and are ready to compromise and sacrifice all their morals and ethics. It is very much condemnable. If India continues to march ahead in the same direction, there is no doubt that India will be facing inter community rivalry in more horrible way than what is persisting and continuing in Pakistan. I hope development minded and nationalist Muslims as well as Hindus will ponder over their approach and redesign their police and real action..

    ONE STRAIGHT QUESTION TO YOU....

Congress has only one 1 PM candidate, that is why no internal conflict...

BJP has 2 PM aspirants, because of that you always say BJP IS SPLIT and they can't come to power.

Where as THIRD FRONT has minimum 10 PM aspirants since it will be made up of more than 10, small small parties JDU, BJD, SP, TRINAMOOLA, ADMK etc etc. In this case DON'T YOU THINK COALITION FORMATION IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE? Why don't you the apply same logic which you applied for BJP? Do you still foresee THIRD FRONT ruling India?

Dear friend, just because you hate BJP and your realization that BJP will definitely come to power, your jealous mind is writing this kind of foolish comments. Be ready to see BJP ruling India next year. Jealousy is not good for health, it will boomerang you with double magnitude.

I see no way to BJP...You know why?it will be isolated from all corners.
    1)NAVIN PATNAYAK ALREADY DESERTED
    2)NITHISH KUMAR ON THE WAY
    3)MAMTAKKA NO WAY
4)SAD IS IN VERY SAD POSITION MAY OVERTAKE CONGRESS IN PUNJAB
5)IF JAYAKA ADDED(CONDITIONAL)DMK IS LIKELY IN OPPN GROUP
    6)KARNATAKA GONE CASE
    7)SOUTH INDIA"AATAKKE UNTO LAKKAKE ELLA!!
Then how BJP able cobble majority of MPs or Allies?MODI's elevation is last nail to the coffin..

On the issue of third front, there may be limitation of it's success and survival but UPA will be taken in to confidence in the event of fragmented verdict..

National Parties are in defensive mod.....

Mamta Divorced UPA and while JDU will follow Mamta's path for NDA!

Powerful Regional Parties are in dictating terms while National parties are in receiving end!!

Whenever there is weakness in the Right Wing political set up,Third viable alternative front strengthened!!!

There are more than two contenders for the coveted post, in fact all regional party's heads serious candidate for the PM post

There could be new political polarization ahead of crucial LS election and time will tell which block is poised to cross magic number majority MPS!

IN THE EVENT OF THIRD FRONT FORMED,
NITHISH KUMAR & MULAYAM SINGH will be serious contender.

Thanks to Modi who brought polarization of secular votes with secular block which may spoilsport for MODI's ambitious political career.

We can keep arguing whether BJP is good or Congress
