Mysore, Jun 14: The annual feast of St Antony, Dornahalli, under the diocese of Mysore was celebrated on Thursday June 13, following a spiritual preparation of nine days of novena. The preparation began with the flag hoisting by Fr Cyril D’Souza, dean of Hunsur on Tuesday June 4.

As part of the spiritual preparation, from June 5 to June 12 Novena mass was held at 11 am and 5.30 pm on the theme ‘Let us grow in the light of word of god’, followed by procession and benediction. Msgr Felix Noronha, vicar general of Shimoga, Fr Balraj, parish priest of Kammanahalli, Bangalore, Fr Prashanna OCD, Fr Anthoni Swami, Divine Mercy Church, K R Nagar preached on the novena days.

On Tuesday June 11, special mass and adoration was offered by Dr Robert Michael Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga.

The pontifical festal mass was celebrated at 10 am by Fr Dr Thomas A Vazhaphilly, bishop of Mysore diocese and at 11.30 am, Fr Joseph Abraham from Bangalore Diocese offered mass in Tamil.

Bishop Thomas A Vazhaphilly in his homily asked people to live in faith and said we should help the poor and the needy people in the same way taught to us by the Jesus Christ.

Jesus came to this world mainly to serve people. He asked his apostles to go to various places to preach the kingdom of god and hence it is also our duty to keep faith in him and also help others, he said.

Lauding the St Antony's Church for helping in changing their needs into miracles, the Bishop asked people to lead a good life based on the principle of St Antony.

Thousands of people from different castes and creed gathered in large number to honour the saint. The devotees expressed gratitude for the favours bestowed on them and fulfilled their promises made to the saint.

Fr Gilbert D’Silva, rector along with the parishioners and sisters were the main persons behind celebrating the feast of the wonder worker in a pious manner.

Congratulation to one and all on the occasion of the feast of St. Anthony at Dornahalli. I was impressed about the new St. Anthony Church in Ras al Khaima (UAE) which was dedicated to the devotees recently. God bless everyone.

I have visited St.Anthony's Church at Dornahalli quite a few times. It is quite an experience for those who have a devotion to this great Saint and I can say from my personal experience that St.Anthony has a very, very strong power of intercession with the Almighty. I want to thank him and the Almighty from the bottom of my heart for being there for me in troubled times in life.
