Kasargod: 99th birthday of Dr Kayyar Kinhanna Rai celebrated

Kasargod, Jun 9: Freedom fighter, senior author, poet and former journalist Nadoja Dr Kayyar Kinhanna Rai's 99th birthday was celebrated at 'Kavita Kutira' in Badiyadka, the house of great litterateur on Saturday June 8.
The celebration was inaugurated by former MLA Vatal Nagaraj.
Speaking on the occasion, he called for the development of Kavita Kuteera at a cost of Rs 1 crore and said that in this regard, the Karnataka government should take the initiative.
"Considering the achievements and contributions of Dr Kayyar, the state government should put pressure on the centre to honour him with national-level award and also install a bronze statue of him," he said.
Responding to the suggestion, Mahin Kelot, standing committee president said, "Necessary land and facilities will be provided in Badiyadka panchayat limits for the installation of bronze statue."
Chief guest health minister U T Khadar in his address said that state government will extend full support in all the projects undertaken in honour of Dr Kayyar Kinhanna.
Harikrishna Punaroor, former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad presided over the function. B Subbayya Rai, Kerala Tulu academy president was also present.
Shivaram Kasargod, president of Karavali Samskrithika Prathishtan welcomed the gathering.
Dr Kayyar Kinhanna Rai who completed 98 years on June 8 was congratulated and felicitated on the occasion. A short cultural programme and poetry session were also held.
