Udupi: Minister Sorake pays surprise visit to district hospital

Udupi, Jun 8: Vinay Kumar Sorake, district in-charge and urban development minister along with Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi MLA paid a surprise visit to Udupi district government hospital here on Saturday June 8.
The minister, who expressed happiness over the condition of the hospital, interacted with the hospital staff and the patients.
Addressing reporters, Sorake said, "The hospital bed capacity will be further increased from 125 to 250. Discussions in this regard are being made. Work force is satisfactory."
“Any problems related to the hospital will be considered as our problem and a solution will be found at the earliest through the state health minister (U T Khadar),” he added.
Anath Nayak, district surgeon said that the hospital requires an additional 40 doctors and that the government should do the needful. The minister assured that it will be done.
Pramod Madhwaraj said that he will visit the hospital once every month. "An expert will be appointed to furnish a report on the needs and requirements of the hospital, and the same will be forwarded to the government for further action," he added.
Sorake and Madhwaraj also met a woman who was sitting sobbing in the hospital and asked her the reason for her grief. She said that she had lost her husband, and that his body was in the hospital mortuary, but there was no ambulance to take the body to Bagalkote where they hailed from.
Responding to her problem, Sorake spoke to the hospital authorities to make all arrangements to shift the body to Bagalkote, while Madhwaraj said that the expenses will be borne by the government.
