Udupi, Jun 6: Just like the bridge in Subrayamanya that submerges due to floods in heavy rain, there is a road in Brahmavar that inundates every time it pours.
The road in question is the stretch of NH 66 that passes by Nirmala School.
One dash of heavy rain is enough to fill the road with knee-high water up to a distance of about 100 metres.
Prior to the work on widening of the highway, the rain water used to flow across the highway and join a stream. However, now, with only one side of the road being built, the water is logged on the other side where work work is yet to be done.
As a result, rain water falling on a large area gets collected on the highway, causing headache for commuters and pedestrians. Locals who pass by this way every day have learnt to be careful, but those from outside get trapped in this pool.
The locals say that everytime this happens, the contractors come and inspect the spot and take up some repair work, but the problem remains unresolved. Despite the same situation arising year after year during the last few monsoons, there is no one to provide any respite, say the locals.
