Kundapur, Jun 5: Miscreants took away four stray cows which had taken shelter in the compound of Kumbhashi Anegudde Lord Vinayaka Temple in the taluk in the early hours on Monday June 3.
A make-shift shed stands erected in front of the temple main gate. This shed is used for performing puja for new vehicles which arrive here for getting the blessings of the Lord. At around 4.45 am on Monday, four people arrived at the spot, loaded four cows sleeping near the temple into the vehicle by catching hold of their hooves, and sped away.
The watchman of the temple, Ashok, said that a Qualis vehicle of which rear seats had been removed, was used for stealing these cows. The thugs posed life threats to the watchman when he resisted. The engine of the vehicle was kept running, when the cows were tossed into it one after the other, the watchman said.
Although some closed circuit cameras have been fitted at some points inside and a few outside points at this temple, no cameras were directed towards vehicles arriving at the temple. This has rendered the task of policemen difficult, it is learnt.
