Kundapur, Jun 4: Several passengers suffered injuries of various degrees after two private buses collided with each other near Kattemakki between Shankarnarayana and Halady on Kundapur-Shimoga state highway in the taluk on Monday June 3.
A bus moving to Jaddinagadde village from Kundapur was trying to overtake a vehicle, when it hit a bus moving ahead towards Siddapur. As a result, the driver of the bus bound for Siddapur from Udupi lost control over his vehicle, and the bus hit a roadside tree.
About 20 passengers from this bus suffered wounds, bruises, and cuts in this incident. A few passengers of the other bus too got injured.
Over 50 people were travelling in these buses, and nearly 25 passengers are getting treatment at hospitals located in Halady, Kundapur, and Manipal. People with minor injuries were admitted into local hospitals, while two with grave injuries were rushed to Manipal after the accident, it is learnt.
Police circle inspector, Manjunath Kauri, and station house officer of Halady police station visited the spot. Kattemakki happens to be an accident-prone area with steep bends, and the people want the state highways department to take measures to make the stretch safer for driving.
A case was registered in Shankarnarayana police station. Investigation has been taken up.
