Coimbatore, Jan 5: Unable to bear the frequent questioning on the whereabouts of his brother-in-law, involved in an alleged rape and robbery case, a 23-year-old-man on Wednesday committed suicide by hanging in his house at Coimbatore.
Police said the brother-in-law, wanted in connection with a rape and robbery case, had been absconding for the last two months. As part of the inquiry, police used to question the family members on his whereabouts.
The man was taken to the police station on Friday last to inquire about his brother-in-law.
Unable to bear the frequent questioning, and the resultant mental agony, he committed suicide. As he had written on his palm that police were the reason for his suicide, the relatives refused to take the body for postmortem demanding that top police officials be present at the spot.
Some senior police officials rushed to the spot and managed to convince the family members, who later took the body for postmortem, police said.
