Moodbidri, Jun 3: ICYM ‘Utsav 2013’, with the coming together of 13 parishes falling within the jurisdiction of the local varado, was held on Sunday June 2 at Milan Multipurpose Hall at Mastikatte here.
On this occasion, youth services and fisheries minister, K Abhaychandra Jain, and Mangalore (south) MLA, J R Lobo, were felicitated.
In response to the felicitation, Jain noted that the Christian community always comes up with new suggestions for taking up people-friendly initiatives, rather than putting forth demands for its own benefit. Jain recalled that he had agreed to contest from this assembly constituency, on the pre-condition that the party shall field a Christian candidate from Mangalore. “In the past too, Christian candidates were put up, but were defeated because of our own party activists. It was not the fault of the candidates,” he explained.
J R Lobo, expressing gratitude for the honour, felt that the people have added to his burden of responsibilities by felicitating him. He promised to concentrate on the development of his constituency, besides working towards giving Christian community more say in various issues.
On the occasion, recently elected local municipal councilors P K Thomas, Anil Cyprian Lobo, and Eliza, were honoured. ICYM Moodbidri Melwyn Lobo was felicitated, and so also all the presidents of ICYM units from parishes under Moodbidri deanery.
Financial assistance for 12 needy students from different parishes was also handed over on behalf of ICYM, with the motto of 'educating and enlightening the lives of needy youth'.

ICYM Mangalore president Nelson Monis, director Fr Ronald D'Souza, priests Fr Mark Valder and Fr Antony, Mangalore Catholic Cooperative Bank Ltd president Melwin D’Cunha, entrepreneurs Frank Fernandes and Arun Mendes, president of Divine World Charitable Trust, Stephen Mendes, former ICYM state president Roshan Castelino, ICYM Moodbidri secretary Venicia Rodrigues and various other dignitaries were present.

Talent show and cultural programmes by different parishes under Moodbidri deanery added colour to the event.
