Mangalore: Women in guise of customers pocket diamonds worth Rs 7 lac

Mangalore, Jun 2: In a daring theft, two women pretending to be customers fleeced a jewellery store of diamond bangles worth Rs 7 lac.
The incident took place at Tanishq jewellery store at Balmatta here on Saturday June 1.
It is said that two women came in the guise of customers at around 2 pm and asked the salesman to show them gold bangles. The saleman handed over the bangles to the women, who turned them over and over to check the design. They also talked to the salesman and diverted his attention, and at the same time, allegedly slipped in two diamond bangles without anyone's notice.
The theft came to light only after the women had left the store, when the salesman realized that two diamond bangles had gone missing.
Of the two women, one was wearing a yellow churidar while the other one was dressed in coffee coloured churidar. The CCTV recorded their images.
It is learnt that before they came to Tanishq, the women tried to steal gold ornaments from two other jewellery stores in the city.
About 6 months back, a similar theft had occured at another jewellery store in the city.
Bunder police have registered a case and investigation is on.
