Kundapur: Bajrang Dal leader accused of rape attempt, thrashed by locals

Kundapur, May 30: A man was beaten up by the locals after he allegedly entered a house and tried to rape a woman. He was later admitted to Manipal hospital with serious injuries.
The incident occured on Wednesday May 29 night at Kadlur, at around 11.30 pm.
It is said that Dinesh Acharya, co-convener of Kundapur Bajrang Dal unit and resident of Kadlur, allegedly barged into a house near a mosque, and attempted to rape a married woman staying in the house. The woman's younger sister raised an alarm and immediately locals came to the rescue.
The people caught hold of Dinesh and thrashed him, causing him serious injuries.
Kundapur police on receiving information about the incident rushed to the spot and rescued Dinesh, and got him admitted to Manipal hospital. He sustained grievous injuries on his face, hands and legs, sources said.
Obedulla, Naushad, Jeffrey, Mohammed Rafiq, Syed and Muzammil were taken into custody for attacking Dinesh. However, Naushad and Syed managed to escape from the clutches of the police. A search for them is on.
Police security was beefed up in Kandlur soon after the incident. On Thursday May 30 morning Kundapur DySP Yashodha, Byndoor circle inspector Arun Kumar Naik, Gangolli sub-inspector Sampath Kumar, Kundapur SI Jayaram D Gowda, SI (crime) Revathi visited the spot.
The victim, in her statement, said that at 11.30 pm, someone knocked on the door and she answered. "The man immediately entered inside my house and locked the door from inside. He tried to rape me and I was helpless. Luckily my sister who was in the house raised an alarm and the locals came to my rescue," she said. Her husband is said to be in Dubai.
A case of attempt to rape has been registered in Kundapur police station. The accused Dinesh too has filed a case against his assualters in the same police station.
