Bangalore, Jan 3: An autonomous college run by the Society of Jesus, St Joseph's College is stepping into 125 years. The inauguration of the post-centenary celebrations began with a science exhibition on the theme " Science for Society:Another World is Possible" on January 2, 2006.
The college is recognized as a "College of Potential Excellence", one among the 43 colleges of the country, by the University Grants Commission and renowned for science education in the country. It has a wonderful programme in Humanities as well, with over 700 students.
With a student strength of over 2500, the college has a faculty of 150 with Masters Programmes in Botany, Chemistry, Microbiology, English, Political Science and MSW.
The college has also produced two PhD's and another 20 students are enrolled for their doctorate programmes. The present principal is Dr (Fr) Ambrose Pinto SJ and the vice-principal is Fr Clarence D'Souza SJ.
