Mangalore, May 23 (The Hindu): The first consignment of air cargo was shipped from Mangalore airport to Dubai on Thursday.
J.T. Radhakrishna, Director, Mangalore International Airport and Custodian of Mangalore International Air Cargo Complex, said that the first consignment of around 500 kg of machinery spare parts was exported in the Air India Express flight to Dubai at 2 pm on Thursday.
Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh had inaugurated the air cargo complex at Mangalore airport on March 18.
Then it was told that initially the scheduled flights would carry air cargo in passenger aircraft.

Air India Express operates two flights a day to Dubai. Added to this, the airline also connects many other destinations in the Gulf region.
Asked about the potential for handling air cargo from Mangalore, D’Silva said that the exporter has promised two-three consignments a month.
There are also queries on exporting vegetable and other perishable cargoes from Mangalore to various destinations in the Gulf region, he said.
