Bangalore, May 23: Senior Congress MLA Malikayya Guttedar will be sworn in as the pro tem speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, which will begin its first session after the recent assembly polls, on May 29.
Karnataka Governor H R Bharadwaj would administer oath of office of the pro tem speaker to Guttedar.
Law and parliamentary affairs minister T B Jayachnadra, who spoke to reporters on Thursday, said new members of the House would meet on May 29 and take oath on May 29 and 30.
Veteran Congress leader Kagodu Thimmappa, who has been elected from Sagar constituency in Shimoga district, would be unanimously elected as the Speaker of the House on June 3 and till then Guttedar would conduct proceedings of the Assembly, the minister said.
The Governor will be addressing the joint session of the State legislature on June 3 and the legislature session is expected to continue till June 6.
