Bangalore, May 23: On the night of Tuesday May 21, the personnel of Tyamagondlu police station, who were patrolling near Muddalingahalli railway gate, signaled a truck to stop. But the truck, driven by Iliyath Pasha, sped away. The policemen, growing suspicious, gave the truck a chase, and succeeded in intercepting it some distance away. As soon as the truck came to a stop, Venkatesh and Subrahmanya, who were occupying the passenger seat, jumped out and escaped. The dead body of a person was found covered in the cabin of the truck.
The policemen, who arrested Pasha, came to know that the murdered man is Gopal (26), a native of Holavanahalli in Koratagere taluk of Tumkur district. Gopal, a driver by profession and living in a rented house in Bangalore was transporting iron rods from Doddaballapur to Madhugiri on Tuesday. His friends, Venkatesh, Subrahmanya, and Iliyath Pash, also took a ride on the truck. After the truck covered some distance from Doddaballapur, Pasha expressed the wish to drive the truck, and Gopal obliged. The others then smothered Gopal with pillows, before tightening a rope around his neck and dumping his body in the cabin, the policemen said.
Radha, wife of Gopal, reportedly had illicit relationship with Venkatesh and Subrahmanya. Gopal was against this relationship, and had advised Radha to correct her behavior. Angered by her husband’s advice, Radha had asked his friends, Venkatesh and Subrhamanya, to finish him off, the policemen revealed. They got this information from arrested Pasha.
Pasha has been remanded to judicial custody. The police are searching for the other accused.
