Mangalore: Bike rider dies in hit-and-run case

Mangalore, May 16: The rider of a motor bike died in an accident, which occurred near Koddabbu Daivasthana of Hosabettu on national highway 66 near Suratkal late night on Tuesday May 14. Basavaraj (42) from Dharwad lost his life in this accident.

Basavaraj was taking Suratkal-based advocate, Gangadhar Hosabettu, in his motor bike to his home at Hosabettu from his office. At Hosabettu, a pickup truck moving towards Mangalore from the direction of Suratkal hit the motor bike. The pickup truck driver sped away, after knocking down the two-wheeler.

Basavaraj, who sustained grievous injuries in the accident, was admitted into a private hospital in the city. Efforts of doctors to keep him alive failed, and he breathed his last on Wednesday.

Pillion rider Gangadhar Hosabettu, who also was injured in the accident, is being treated in a private hospital here.
