Mangalore: 'Yaya Ind-ya Mayaya' grand finale on May 19

Mangalore, May 15: ‘Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya’, the first All-India Konkani dance contest which witnessed participants from seven centers of four states is all set for the grand finale to be held at Kalaangann on Sunday May 19. The semi-final will be held on Saturday May 18.
The contest has been jointly organized by 4 leading Konkani organizations – Jagotik Konknni Songhotton, Mandd Sobhann, Konkani Prachar Sanchalan and Nach Sobhann, to raise the huge resources required to fund their activities at the regional, national and international level.

The semi-finals and finals of the contest will be held on May 18 and May 19 respectively from 6.30 pm. The award presentation ceremony of the contest will be held at 8.30 pm on Sunday May 19 where ‘Vishwa Konkani Samaz Ratn’ Ronald Colaco, who is also the main sponsor for the event, will be the chief guest. Newly-elected MLA J R Lobo will be the guest of honor.
Altogether 14 teams each from group and duet categories have been shortlisted through auditions held at Goa, Udupi, Mumbai, Kasargod, Bangalore, Honnavar and Mangalore in January/February 2013. They will now battle in the semi-finals, and the top 5 teams from each of the group and duet categories will enter the finals. The winners of the contest will be awarded with prizes worth over Rs 5 lac.
In accordance with the spirit of the contest, many non-Konkanis have qualified to compete in the semi-finals.
The semi-finalists in group category are Snaden Shawn Dance Academy, Bastora (Goa) Floor Fillers, Calangute (Goa), Gladiators, Kaup (Udupi), Sagar Guys, Kukkikatte (Udupi), Maharastra Konkani Youth Association, Andheri west (Mumbai), Adwitiya Dance Company, Vasai west (Mumbai), Team Kayyar (Kasargod), St John D’britto Church, Narampady (Kasargod ), Naach Majecho, Mysore (Bangalore), Drishti Art Centre (Bangalore), Nayana Prasanna & party, Kumta (Honnavar), Ventures group, Kumta (Honnavar), Silver Steppers, Bejai (Mangalore), SDM College of Business Mangement (Mangalore).
In duet category, the semifinalists are Akash Telgu & Aaditi Morajkar (Goa), Darryl D’Souza & Raquel Fernandes (Goa), Annie Melinda D’Souza & Sathwik Shetty S (Udupi), Akhil Kumar & Rovina Rodrigues (Udupi), Remita Miranda & Roshan Miranda (Mumbai), Jovila D’Souza & Crystal Rebello (Mumbai), Pavintha Monteiro & Puneeth Monteiro (Kasargod), Prathish D’Souza & Sweedal D’Souza (Kasargod), Neema Lobo & Bindu Noronha, Mysore (Bangalore), Felcia D’Souza & Preetha D’Souza, Mysore (Bangalore), Nayana Prabhu & Shwetha Biligar (Honnavar), Shilpa Gonsalves & Shweta Naik (Honnavar), Gavin Rodrigues and Vaishnavi Pavithran (Mangalore), Maria D’Souza and Sunil Anthony (Mangalore).
The judges for the semi-final and finals will be Pramod Alva, finalist of national reality show 'India’s Got Talent' and Ocean Kids choreographer, Ramesh Nair, dance director and choreographer, Chethan Salian, dancer, director, choreographer from Mumbai.
The technical committee consists of Louis J Pinto, Avil D’Cruz and Eric Ozario. The programme will be compered by young Disha Prabhu and Maxon Castelino.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Eric Ozario, gurkar of Mandd Sobhan said that the mega dance contest will incur them a cost around Rs 18 lac and that the preparation for the contest started from September 2012.
"However, when compared to the efforts put in by the organizers, we were a bit disappointed with the response from the people," he added, thanking all the people who supported them.
