Mangalore, May 14: "The nation is heading towards serious economic crisis. There is a downfall in employment generation, unemployment problems are increasing in the nation. Farmers are committing suicides, and there is severe crisis in the agrarian sectors. Policies of the UPA government have failed to universalize food distribution among the people," said Comrade Amarjeet Kaur, national secretary, Communist Party of India.
She was addressing a press meet during her visit to the city here on Tuesday May 14. She thereafter participated in a CPI convention at B C Road, Bantwal.
"The UPA government has failed to introduce scientific techniques in the agrarian sector. It has failed to resolve the crisis of drought in the nation, the debt of farmers, and the interest on loan is never reduced. The taxes from corporate and private secors are not properly recovered.
"There are several posts lying vacant in the government sector but the UPA doesn’t bring this to the parliament for discussion, instead UPA claims that it is providing employment opportunities and skill development programmes," she lashed out.
Slamming the UPA government over its inefficiency, Kaur said, "UPA government is favoring the corporate houses, private entrepreneurs, business classes but not the working class, peasants or poor farmers. UPA is focusing on FDI, foreign investments. Presently government is depending on ADB Bank, World Bank and other international financial institution basically which go against sustainable development. The government has even failed to increase production. The government never bothered about providing basic amenities like food, education, and health care, instead it is tried to commercialize everything which paved the way for private sectors. With the present policies of the government, business tycoons and private sectors are looting the national revenue."
On this occasion Sanjeev, BV Lokesh, HV Rao, Sathish Bantwal was present on this occasion.
Later, speaking at the convention, she once again lambasted the UPA government along with the BJP and said, "Both Congress and BJP have the same economic policies, which are anti-people. The working class in the country has been literally reduced to begging."
"We do not want a government that runs the country after the American model sitting in airconditioned offices. We need a government that is concerned about the poor, one that responds to our problems and considers people of all sections as equals and provides basic amenities to all. The government has no money in its treasury for the poor working class, but it has enough and more for the higher government officials and representatives. Where does that money come from?" she demanded, calling upon the CPI workers to unite politically and fight against anti-people policies.
The programme was inaugurated by state CPI working president P V Lokesh. He said that the convention had been organized to spread awareness on the need to protect the rights of the poor, bring about pro-working class policies, and strengthen trade unions. "Due to the persistant efforts of the CPI, the BJP was defeated in the Assembly elections. Now we must ensure that it does not come back to power. We must strive against the UPA government's anti-people's policies, and our hard work must reflect in the 2014 elections," he said.
CPI district working president P Sanjeeva presided over the convention. Senior CPI leader B Vishwanath Naik was felicitated on the occasion. Chief secretary B Shekar welcomed, Seetaram Berinja thanked and Satish Kumar compered the programme.
