Mangalore, May 10: Addressing a press conference here on Thursday May 9, newly elected Congress MLA from the city south constituency, J R Lobo, said that he will lay high emphasis on maintenance of law and order in the city and fostering unity among people, curbing of drug mafia and moral policing, taking up a series of development programmes, and revival of Mangalore City Workforce to draw up plans for the development of the city.
“We will continue to execute the existing projects that are good for the city and in the interests of the people. The construction of district theatre, ‘Rangamandira’, which is in the limbo since the last two decades, will be taken up and completed soon. I will ensure that the construction of Thumbe vented dam will gain momentum, and footpaths are built wherever they are absent. My priority will also be to replace the old central market with a modern one. The city deserves a modern bus stand and I will ensure that it will get it,” Lobo explained.
The other issues which are gaining the MLA’s attention are construction of fisheries dock, sports complex, and tourism development.
Lobo said that he will put in conscious efforts to ensure that the party’s manifesto as released by Mangalore (south) constituency will be implemented in Toto. He revealed that a committee would be formed for taking care of the implementation of the manifesto, and that the progress review would be conducted once every four months.
He felt that as stated in the manifesto, it is possible to manage the finances without revising the existing taxes for five years, and he would work to bring an amendment to law to make this happen.
“The current integrated master plan of the city suffers from certain lacunae. I am committed to personally discuss these issues at the government level and ensure that necessary modifications are affected. Under the ADB-funded underground drainage project, two percent works are pending, and these would be completed within three months. The scheme of the present government to provide uninterrupted water supply to the citizens will also be implemted,” lobo promised.
He added that politics comes into play only till the election is held and a candidate gets elected. He therefore, promised to take along representatives of all the political parties for achieving the progress of his constituency.
The press conference was attended by Congress leaders, Suresh Ballal and Mohammed Badruddin.
