Bangalore, May 9: During victory celebrations of winning candidates at various places in the state on Wednesday May 8, a boy lost his life, while several others suffered injuries.
A boy named Mallappa Patil (13) lost his life after the tractor trailer in which he was travelling to his native place, after participating in the victory march at Gajendragad in Gadag district overturned near Jeere petrol bunk. He had taken part in Congress candidate, G S Patil’s victory march and was returning to Gogeri village. After the driver lost control over the tractor, it hit a tree, and the trailer overturned. A number of persons suffered injuries in this accident, with three among them sustaining critical injuries.
After Congress workers and people loyal to independent candidate from Kolar, Varthur Prakash, clashed with one another, a person was stabbed at Noor Nagar. It is said that a Congress activist, Tanveer (25) objected to the bursting of crackers by Varthur’s fans there. Injured Tanveer was rushed to a hospital.
JD(S) and Congress activists fought at Gangavathi, ending with injuries to Devappa Kamadoddi, former municipal councilor. Congress activists thereafter protested in front of the police station, demanding the arrest of the culprits. After some stones were pelted at the police station, the police personnel resorted to caning to disperse the protesters.
A person, who was returning to Sukalpet after taking part in the Congress victory celebration in Sindhanur in a two-wheeler, was attacked by some people. The policemen had to cane the protestors and burst eight tear gas shells in Hirekerur to disperse KJP activists celebrating victory of their leader, U B Banakar, tried to lead a procession from in front of defeated Congress candidate, Basavanagouda Patil’s residence. Angered by this action, some KJP activists threw stones at the policemen.
