Karnataka result rejection of BJP ideology: PM

New Delhi, May 8 (IANS): The Congress victory in Karnataka is a rejection of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) ideology, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Wednesday.

"It is a clear result against the ideology of the BJP which has been ruling Karnataka. The people of the country know what's what and they will reject the BJP ideology as the result in Karnataka shows," Manmohan Singh told reporters here.

Lauding the efforts of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh said: "He took a leading role in the campaigning and worked hard. I congratulate the Congress workers of Karnataka."

The Congress is headed towards a majority in Karnataka while the ruling BJP was routed.

Dear Declan, the topic 'trying to correct a social imbalance' is for an altogether different debate, which I do not want to get in to at this stage. My intention of writing the word 'appeasement' is - There should be no discrimination on the basis of caste / religion / group (like linguistic minority (?)etc.)and gender, at the same time no special privileges to be given also on this basis. ALL should be treated equally. Unfortunately, the second or 3rd question in any government form ask about religion / caste. The term minority / majority should not exist politically. For example, a member of majority community hit the member of a minority community. It should be X hit Y. X should be tried in court and punished. No special favours to either of them. In the political scenario what is happening today and noticed by some people from majority community is that whenever such incident happens (majority hitting minority) Congress will take the side of the minority whether right or wrong which it should stop. Then there will be no relevance for BJP. After all, some people from majority community also feel insecure isn't it?

The situation is pretty ugly today. Both sides trade allegations against each other. This situation which has developed over several decades will not be overcome overnight. However, a serious endeavour has to be made towards cleaning this mess in our political system by moving in the right direction. Unfortunately, it has become a tit for tat game with no political party willing to give in. We can only hope that the consolidated actions of all right and fair thinking people of our country may gradually bring about a change in the mindset of Society and our political culture but it is going to be a tough and long journey to reach there. However, I believe there is hope and you should too !

I agree with you. Changes needs to be brought out. Not only consolidated efforts but (i shall add) it should concerted and comprehensive. Comprehensive because more than one issues are interlinked. I hope it will happen in my life time (only doubt considering my age) but at least keep trying and keep hoping. Thanks Declan for sharing your views.

Dear Declan, BJP's so called communalism is the off-shoot of the Congress policy of minority appeasement. The day when congress stops religion politics (Minority - Majority complex)then communalism vanishes on its own. Today Congress has only one tool against BJP - that is branding them 'communal'. otherwise not much difference in policies. Congress has to play this 'communal' card to go to the voters. If this continues, slowly and steadily the majority population will get polarized and naturally parties like BJP will benefit. I do not think it is 'rejection' of ideology in Karnataka election. It is the total disillusionment of the voters (even staunch supporters of BJP) in the misrule of BJP has given this result. If Congress beleives that BJP is gone (like people beleive congress is gone out of UP & Bihar) they are mistaken. If congress government in Karnataka behaves the same arrogant way as the UPA-II then rest assured not only BJP will come back after 5 years, Congress will never be able to get up from the blow. Congress has clear mandate of the people (no need of any support from even one independent)should utilize this opportunity to see that BJP is politically out of Karnataka.

What you term as 'Appeasement' are actually Government schemes to correct the social imbalances of our Indian society which has been entrenched in Indian tradition over hundreds of years as a result of the 'Caste' divide.
I dont think that economically well to do people from the minority communities are beneficiaries of any government schemes. It is only the people who come from the lower and backward castes or the economically poor class from these minorities who are entitled to such government benefits.
Further, please also note that even backward castes and scheduled castes from the Hindu community are also beneficiaries of several government schemes. How come I dont hear any 'Appeasement' criticism towards them ? ? ?
The hindu poor/backward classes are entitled to govt.benefits as much as the poor/backward classes among minorities to minimise/eliminate the effect of the social imbalances of our Indian society.
The purpose is to create a feeling of social equality among the 'poor and backward' classes.

Of course Dear PM, people do not like BJP ideology for sure. So, BJP should learn something from Congress that they have to back up their tainted Leaders even if they make grave corruptions. They should not remove any CM or Ministers even if they are proved corrupt like Congress is doing all over India. Shame on you Singhji, first remove your Law Minister and Railway Minister and then talk about morality

We will listen to anything you say. However, first please demand resignations from Ashwini Kumar and Pawan Bansal. After SC's observations it's ridiculous for the Law Minister to continue. Not interested in any party's ideology. What we want is
    clear,clean and good governance.

The BJP had no specific political mandate to give the suffering population, but the leaders
systematically and tactfully used the great HINDU religion of tolerance as a spade card and brainwashed the masses. Hunger is more serious than religion. No political party should use religion for political mileage and it will backfire one day. Now, BJP is the prime example however some of their leaders were enlisted among the wealthiest people of India in a very short span of time.

I don't think it is a rejcetion of BJP ideology. Rather it is a rejection of state BJP leaders, their infighting, split in the party, factionalism and above all involvement in corruption and scandals. So Mr.PM don't be under the impression that UPA ideology will be well accepted by the nation.

People of Karnataka, knew Congress is corrupt.
But they also knew BJP is corrupt as well as communal.
During BJP rule, most unfortunate disturbances happened like never before by none other than from their own splinter groups!
People knew who is doing what and how the animosity was promoted!

BJP is not a party. It is gang of thieves who is looting our country and disrupting our peace. Dividing people of Karnataka.
We are all one in India, created by God. Forget about caste and creed.

Not just ideology and corruption at its worst but also moral policing , church attacks were some of the factors for the BJP's debacle at the hustings. This is the end of the BJP in Karnataka. THANKS mainly to the KJP and it's leader BSY.But let not the Congress bask in glory and recreate it's several fault lines of 2004 and earlier years by putting up puppet chief ministers thereby encouraging corruption and giving both the JDS and BJP a foothold in Karnataka politics in the last decade. The people are not fools and will be ready again to teach the Congress another lesson if they fail to put up good leaders and weed out corruption.

    Dear Mr. Prabhu,
it is better to accept the verdict and verdict is very clear. Apart from misrule by BJP its corruption over and above the head, the fanatic, communalism cards played by different Sena groups of BJP is horrible especially in the Coastal Karnataka by RSS, Bajrangdal, Ramasena, VHP and so on...females and students being brutally attacked by these groups and BJP has supported and the BJP government has done nothing about it!! JAI HO!!

Dear PM, As usual you are doing mistake in assessing the situation.Dear Sir,it is not the ideology for the debacle of BJP in Karnataka but rampant corruption, betrayal of voters trust, greed for amass the wealth in illigal way which also a chareritic of UPA too.
Secondly, there is no hand of Rahul in the victroy of Congress in Karnataka because Congress victory here is due to negetive votes against BJP and not by judegement in favour of party by people. These are very simple matters to understand and assess. Then you failed to understand the ground reality?Sir.....

Sure the BJP understands the ground reality better because they have fallen to the 'ground' today in Karnataka.
Corruption seems to be the only focus for those who are unaffected or indifferent or actually favour the BJP's communal agenda which goes against the principles of Human rights and democracy of treating all citizens fairly irrespective of religion, caste, creed etc.. However, I guess some people still just dont get it. Nobody favours corruption but just cant allow communalism a free entry to replace it. Both are bad.

    Dear Honorable PM,
You are correct and it is 100% basically the ideology, it is not minorities, whereas Hindus itself along with hand in hand with minorities without considering the caste, religion casted out BJP!
But at the same time the people of Karnataka eagerly looking forward for a better government by Congress soon!! JAI HO..
