Mangalore: Ten couples exchange vows at Rosario Cathedral mass marriage

Mangalore, May 3: St Vincent De Paul Sabha had organized a mass marriage programme at Rosario Cathedral Church here on Wednesday May 1. The programme saw ten couples exchanging marriage vows.
Bishop of Mangalore Diocese, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, chief priest, Fr Stany Goveas, and other priests solemnized the wedding ceremony, duly celebrating the holy Eucharist on the occasion.
The Bishop, in his special benedictory address to the newlyweds, advised them to become fine examples for others by leading a life of mutual love and trust. “Learning one another, cooperating with the partner, and becoming compatible to one another are the secrets of a successful marriage,” he said.
St Vincent De Paul Sabha (SVP) is a service organization, which is driven with the main aim of serving the poor and the downtrodden. Organizing of community marriage functions for the benefit of families which find it hard to meet marriage-related expenses, is among the service activities of the organization.
After the conclusion of the religious rituals related to the mass marriage function, a meeting programme was held in an elaborately laid out pandal in the church premises. Mrs and Mr Rey Castelino, president, Forum of Catholic Businessmen, Professionals and Entrepreneurs, was the chief guest. Fr Stany Goveas, priest of Rosario Church, vice president of Rosario Church parish council, Dolphi D’Souza, SVP president, Joachim Monteiro, secretary, Philomena Lobo, and SVP Central Council vice president, Gilbert Pinto, were present at the dais.
Fr Stany Goveas delivered the welcome address. On behalf of the newlyweds, Frederick D’Souza (Permannur) and Vatsala Clara (Permannur) lighted the lamp. On behalf of the organizers, every couple was gifted with presents worth Rs 4,000 and Rs 5,000 in the form of fixed deposits. On behalf of the new couples, Valerian Fernandes (Alangar) and Marlene Fernandes expressed gratitude to the organizers.
Vice president of Rosario Church parish council, Dolphi D’Souza led the programme related to handing over the brides to the families of grooms. SVP member, Rosario Church secretary, and SVP Central Council secretary, Dolphi Tauro, received the brides on behalf of the families of grooms. While Vinay Serrao hosted the programme held inside the church, Ida Furtado compered the programme in the pandal. SVP secretary, Philomena Lobo proposed vote of thanks.
