Bangalore, Apr 28: A software engineer, who was going through a phase of acute depression over the recent death of his wife, killed his daughter and committed suicide in a resort near here on the night of Friday April 26.
Aravind Reddy (36), working for a Singapore-based multinational company, was residing in J P Nagar here. He killed his daughter, Lakshya (7), by mixing an overdose of sleeping pills with her dinner. Reddy and his daughter had been on a visit to Bannerghatta National Park with his daughter on Friday. At night, instead of returning, he checked into the jungle lodge-cum-resort inside the park, with his daughter.
As repeated knocks on the doors of the room did not evoke any response, employees of the resort grew suspicious, and broke it open. They found that Reddy’s mouth was stuffed with clothes, and his hands had been tied together behind his back with plastic tags. They also found the body of Lakshya, and a suicide note wherein Reddy confessed to his crime, and asserted that nobody was responsible for his death.
It is gathered that Arvind’s wife had passed away about two years ago, and ever since, he was suffering from bouts of depression.
The police believe that the techie stuffed clothes into his mouth and tied his own hands to ensure that the noises and struggles at the dying moment do not attract anyone’s attention. However, the exact cause of his death could not be ascertained, and post mortem report is awaited.
