Workshop held on edu mission policy for the Udupi Diocese

A two daylong workshop on the educational mission for the Udupi Diocese was held on April 25 and April 26 from 9:30 am to 5 pm in the Don Bosco Hall, Udupi.

Dr Oswald Mascarenhas, chairman of MBA Programs, St Aloysius College, Mangalore conducted the workshop as resource person. The workshop was attended by 25 invitees associated with education from different educational institutions of the Udupi Diocese.

 

Following two daylong brainstorming, the workshop succeeded in drafting the vision and mission statements along with the goals, objectives and Motto for the educational mission of the Udupi Diocese.

The workshop was  inaugurated by the Bishop of Udupi, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo along with Dr Oswald Mascrenhas on April 25 at 9:30 am. Following the prayer conducted by Fr. Anil D’Souza, dean of Kundapur Varado, Fr Fred Mascarenhas, dean of Udupi Varado welcomed the gathering.

In his introductory remarks, the Bishop of Udupi spelt out the reasons for convening the workshop on the Educational Mission for the Udupi Diocese. Dr Oswald Mascarenhas also addressed the gathering focusing on the aim of education in Christian Institutions. Prof Vincent Alva compeered the inaugural program.

Following the inauguration of the workshop, Dr Oswald Mascarenhas conducted the workshop with the theme “Vision, Mission, Motto and Driving Force for the Newly Created Diocese of Udupi: Strategic Management Perspectives”. 

While conducting the workshop, Dr Oswald Mascrenhas said, “At this juncture, we do not need to drum up and pronounce a finalized version of vision by today or tomorrow. We need gradually to create a vision that is distinctive or differentiating but transformative strategy for the entire Diocese of Udupi. We need to set up a Christian process (with right inputs) to generate a vision with and for the people of Udupi ”

In the course of the workshop, Dr Oswald Mascarenhas spoke on essential components of  a good strategy, strategic thinking and strategic planning and a new philosophy of learning.

The participants in the workshop included Fr Valerian Mendonca, chancellor of the Udupi Diocese, Fr Fred Mascarenhas, dean of Udupi Varado, Fr Stany Tauro, dean of Shirva Varado, Fr Anil D’Souza, dean of Kundapur Varado, principal Rajan and professor Ronald Moras from St Mary’s College, Shirva, Sr Lilly Pushpa, professor Vincent Alva and Dr Gerald Pinto from  Milagres College, Kallianpur, Sr Adrian, headmistress of Mount Rosary School, Kallianpur, Elias Rebello, headmaster of Lourdes School, Kanajar, Fr Roshan, Dr Peter Fernandes, Principal of Alva’s Engineering College, Moodbidri, Commodore Jerome Castelino, dean and Dr Eugene D’Souza, principal of St Lawrence College, Moodubelle.

    Nice to see Bishop Jerald in action. He is a great visionary and the person who can understand the pain of poor and needy. It is the good luck of Udupi Diocese to get a leader like Bishop Jerry. Let us all support him in his mission. He will make wonders for sure.
