Mangalore, Apr 25: Fr Mark Valder has been chosen by Goa Konkani Academy for its ‘Madhav Shanbhag Konkani Language Lifetime Achievement Award’ for the year 2013. Presently, Fr Valder has been residing at the Congregation of the Helpers of Mount Rosary convent, Moodbidri, Alangar after getting retired as the parish priest of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church, Gantalkatte. He is also a former editor of ‘Raknno’, a Konkani publication from Mangalore.
A release from the Academy said that the award is being given annually to people from outside Goa state with outstanding service to Konkani and culture to their credit.
The award will be conferred on the priest, whose service to Konkani language and culture has been precious and illustrious, at a function being held at Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Shaktinagar in the city, at 5 pm on Saturday April 27. This function will be held under the joint aegis of Goa Konkani Academy and Konkani Bhas ani Sanskriti Pratishtan, Mangalore.
President of the Academy, Pundalik N Nayak, and founder president of Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Basti Vaman Shenoy, will be participating in the event.
